VE Day Window Decoration Project

Image
Image showing artist Sue Mills decorating a window with a colourful design. The VE Day 80th Anniversary branding is in the bottom right corner.

We are working with a local artist to decorate business windows in our High Streets to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) on Thursday 8 May.  We plan to decorate a total of 35 windows (approximately 15 in Brentwood, 12 in Shenfield and 8 in Ingatestone).  This is an exciting opportunity for Brentwood Connected member businesses to have their windows decorated in a fun and colourful way, free of charge.

Each window design will feature red, white and blue bunting with additional elements to allow us to integrate the windows, and your business, into other Brentwood Connected events like the Brentwood Art Trail and Summer holiday activities.  Please note, this is not a full window display. The artwork will be in a corner of your window or door, depending on the space available, but it will not take up the entire area.

Windows will be decorated on the below dates and you will be booked in between 9am - 5pm for approximately one hour. By applying for this opportunity, you confirm you are happy to accommodate an artist on one of these dates (you may share specific availability information in the form below), and that you are happy for the display to remain in place throughout the Summer:

Tuesday 22 April
Wednesday 23 April

PLEASE CONFIRM YOU HAVE READ AND ACCEPT THE TERMS & CONDITIONS*

*Terms & Conditions:

  • The window design must stay in place until Sunday 31 August so it can be integrated into other Brentwood Connected activities.  (After this date, the design can be easily removed by businesses by applying hot soapy water, letting the water soak into the design for a few minutes, then wiping away with kitchen towel).
  • This opportunity is available to all Brentwood Connected member businesses across Brentwood, Shenfield and Ingatestone High Streets. Locations are limited to 35 in total, spread across all three High Streets, and we aim to prioritise businesses who have yet to be a part of a Brentwood Connected Trail event.
  • The artist will be using Posca pens, which are temporary and not waterproof, so all designs must therefore be painted on the INSIDE.  If you have a window cleaner who cleans indoors, please let them know to avoid the area while the artwork is in place.  If untouched, the design should look great for months.
  • You confirm you will allow our artist to access the window inside on the date of installation and that this will be clean and free of any posters.  Ideally, the window will be away from any areas where customers regularly congregate, to minimise the inconvenience to you.  Alternatively, the artist could paint a glass door rather than a window if preferred, but this can be challenging if people regularly enter your premises, so please consider this.  The job will take approximately one hour.
  • Windows which are regularly affected by condensation are unlikely to be suitable as the design may run off these very quickly.   In addition, windows which are in a high traffic area might not be suitable as the design may be scratched off accidentally. We will consider these factors when making a decision about the best locations.
  • Businesses who have applied can expect to hear from us after Monday 7 April 2025. If you want to discuss this project further, please email us on brentwoodconnected@brentwood.gov.uk.
